TS Galaxy Queens top the Hollywoodbets Super League table, still no relief in sight for relegation haunted Durban Ladies

TS Galaxy Queens shot to the top of the log standings in the Hollywoodbets Super League following a hard-fought 2-1 win over City Lads Ladies on Sunday, 7 September 2025.

The clash took place at the Walmer Sports Fields in Gqeberha after it was moved from the traditional Isaac Wolfson Stadium – with the visitors not happy with the state of the pitch. Pictures seen by CentreCircle.online indicated a field not conducive to hosting a football match.

Regardless, leading top goal scorer in the South African elite women’s football league, Leandra Smeda, struck twice either side of the half to hand the Rockets the lead before the Gunners reduced the deficit, but it was too little too late as the travellers returned home with maximum points.

After 18 rounds of fixtures, TS Galaxy Queens lead the pack with 43 points, two ahead of reigning champions Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies who were not in action this weekend.

The Mpumalanga side has registered 13 wins, four draws and one loss – they are on a 14-match unbeaten run, having last lost on 20 April to JVW.

City Lads are 11th with 23 points after 20 outings.

With nine games to go, Durban Ladies will need a miracle to survive relegation after suffering their 16th loss of the season. The KwaZulu Natal outfit featured in a five-goal thriller at home against fellow strugglers Richmond United Ladies, going down 2-3 at the Sugar Ray Xulu Stadium in Durban.

After 21 rounds of fixtures, Durban Ladies have collected five points from the same number of draws.

They still have to play high-riding teams like TUT Matsatsantsa Ladies (4th), TS Galaxy Queens, JVW (5th) and UJ Ladies (6th), among others, which almost makes it mission impossible to survive relegation. Richmond United are 14th on the table with 20 points from 22 games.

The University of Fort Hare moved to third place after defeating Ezemvelo Ladies 1-0 at the Sugar Ray Xulu Stadium. In only their second year in the elite women’s football league, the Eastern Cape side has become a threat to many teams – they are on 39 points, four behind the current log leaders after 22 games. They have won 10 matches, with nine draws and only three defeats.

Ezemvelo Ladies are ninth on 27 points.

University of Cape Town (UCT)

Newcomers University of Cape Town (UCT) downed the more experienced First Touch Ladies 1-0 at the Kopano Astro in the Mother City.

The victory sees the Capetonians in position eight on the table with 29 points from 22 games, while First Touch is 12th.

UCT were promoted to the Hollywoodbets Super League at the beginning of this season alongside Sasol League National Champions, Ezemvelo Ladies.

JVW

There was only one drawn match this past weekend where Copperbelt Ladies shared the points with JVW at the Seshego Stadium in Polokwane.

Neither side managed to find the back of the net. JVW are lying sixth on the log standings after accumulating 36 points from 19 encounters, while Copperbelt are seventh with 30 points from 21 fixtures.

Six teams were not in action – TUT, UJ, Tuks and UWC – these are at the 2025 Varsity Women’s Cup that is currently underway in Johannesburg, while Sundowns Ladies and Royal AM got byes.
