Sundowns Ladies trio make up Best XI of the 2022 CAF Women’s Champions League

The Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies trio of defender Bambanani Mbane, midfielder Boitumelo Rabale and forward Lelona Daweti has been included in the Best XI of the CAF Women’s Champions League following the conclusion of the 2022 edition in Morocco.

All three players have won Player of the Match accolades during the tournament which was won by hosts ASFAR in a 4-0 demolition job over Sundowns Ladies in the final.

It comes as a no surprise that ASFAR goal minder Khadija Er-rmichi has been picked in goals. She was voted the Best Goalkeeper of the Tournament after she led her club to the title – a small consolation after she failed to lift the CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations trophy with Morocco.

The backline is made up of the centre-back pairing of Mbane and Aziza Rabbah of ASFAR, while Bayelsa Queens’ Glory Edet and ASFAR’s Ghizlane Chhiri are at right-back and left-back respectively.

Lesotho’s finest, Rabale, who has also proven to be a lethal goal poacher for Banyana Ba Style, is in the middle of the park alongside Siham Boukhami of ASFAR as well as teammate Fatima Tagnaout. The latter was influential and led the charge for the Moroccan outfit – she was selected Best Player in the tournament.

Leading the attack is the tournament’s top goal scorer Ibtissam Jraidi of ASFAR who found the back of the net six times in the competition. She is assisted by Simba Queens’ Opah Clement with her incredible pace while the 4-3-3 line-up is completed by forward Daweti, who scored four goals during the ill-fated Sundowns Ladies campaign.

The list of players was compiled by the members of the CAF Technical Study Group (TSG) – underlining the top performers in each position over the last three weeks of the tournament.
