Sundowns Ladies send stern warning to opponents

Four matches! 26 goals!

That’s the story of Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies so far in the 2022 Hollywoodbets Super League as they make clear their intentions of defending their title.

Banyana Ba Style are not shy when it comes to goal scoring – and have shown they are not dependent on only one player to hit the back of the net.

They kicked off the new season with a hard-fought 2-1 over Ma-Indies.

Then the floodgates opened when Golden Ladies felt the wrath of Masandawana as they were beaten 11-0, with Durban Ladies also at the wrong end of a 5-0 score line while newcomers City Lads Ladies were the latest victims as they were walloped 8-0.

“The score line reflected our all-round performance. It shows there is something good we are doing as a team. We are happy with the quality of the goals we scored, but I am even more pleased with the confidence we displayed in the final third. Overall, it was a great outing for us,” said Sundowns Ladies coach Jerry Tshabalala on the club’s website, speaking after their clash with City Lads.

Sundowns have scored eight goals more than second-placed JVW

Others who have been on the scoresheet for the Brazilians include Rhoda Mulaudzi, Nonhlanhla Mthandi, Karabo Dhlamini, Melinda Kgadiete and Thalea Smidt – sending a warning to the rest of the field, more so their next opponents, the University of the Western Cape (UWC) in week 5 of this season’s campaign.

Lying in seventh position, the Capetonians have not had an awesome start to the league.

They have won two matches, lost one and drew the other.

In the four fixtures played up to this point, UWC has managed a paltry four goals while letting the same amount and could be in for a difficult afternoon against the defending champions.
