Sundowns Ladies part ways with Thusi

Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies have parted ways with one of their longest serving players Bongiwe Thusi.

Slender, as she is known to her peers, was part of the 2021 treble-winning squad that annexed the Hollywoodbets Super League, the COSAFA Women’s Champions League zonal qualifiers which led to the CAF Women’s Champions League victory.

In the latter tournament, Thusi scored the winning penalty against Malabo Kings of Equatorial Guinea as her side claimed a 5-4 victory in the semi-final.

She joined the Brazilians in 2011 from Phomolong Ladies Team in Thembisa – winning the 2013 and 2015 Sasol Women’s National League titles.

“Bidding farewell to an outstanding player who so selflessly showed great determination to the club for more than a decade is not easy. Each silverware won during her time will always be fondly accompanied by the memories made with Bongiwe,” said Sundowns Ladies in a statement.

“Join us Masandawana as we wish Bongiwe well in the next steps of her footballing career and thank her for the memorable years she spent with the Club. Slender will always be part of Mamelodi Sundowns, and we are certain that the journey we walked together will forever remain in our hearts.”

Thusi also played a key role in helping Banyana Ba Style clinch the Hollywoodbets Super League trophy three times in a row.
