South African Seoposenwe on the scoresheet for Rayadas in Women’s Champions Cup

Former Banyana Banyana international, Jermaine Seoposenwe was on the scoresheet for her Mexican side CF Monterrey Femenil in an emphatic 8-0 victory over Alianza Women of El Salvador in the CONCACAF Women’s Champions Cup.

The clash took place on Thursday morning South African time (18 September 2025) at Estadio BBVA in Guadalupe, Nuevo Leon, Mexico.

The CONCACAF Champions Cup was formerly known as the CONCACAF Champions League before changing its name (it is similar to the CAF Women’s Champions League). The competition is the top continental tournament for clubs from North America, Central American and the Caribbean, with the champion automatically qualifying for the new women’s global tournaments – the FIFA Women’s Champions Cup and the FIFA Women’s Club World Cup.

Seoposenwe netted the third goal of the match in the 32nd minute, helping Rayadas to a 4-0 half time lead in only their second game in the competition, reviving hopes of a better finish following a 2-1 defeat to the USA’s Gotham FC in the first fixture.

This was the Capetonian’s first goal of the season for the club – she last scored in April against Thembi Kgatlana’s UANL Tigres in the quarterfinals of the season-ending Clausura play-offs, finding the equaliser in referee’s optional time after coming on as a second half substitute.

Alice Soto scored a hattrick, with the other goals coming from Day Silva, Diana Evangelista, Katty Martinez and an own goal by Samantha Valdez.

The victory leaves Rayadas third in Group B – Gotham are first on nine points after three wins, followed by compatriots Washington Spirits in second place on six points following back to back triumphs.

Canada’s Vancouver Rise Academy is fourth on the table and are yet to collect points after consecutive defeats, while Alianza are fifth, thanks to three successive losses.

Monterrey return to continental competition next month (2 October) when they take on Vancouver Rise FC Academy.

In the meantime they will be back in Liga MX Femenil action, facing Pachuca on Tuesday morning (23 September).

Armed with a new coach, Leonardo Alvarez following the dismissal of Costa Rican Amelia Valverde earlier this month, Rayadas is on a mission to improve on their league log standings.

Despite renewing her contract to end in 2026, Valverde parted ways with her employers after a devastating 4-0 defeat to bitter rivals UANL Tigres (South Africa’s Thembi Kgatlana scored a brace in that fixture).

Eleven games later into the season, Monterey find themselves in unfamiliar territory – fifth position – on 20 points following six wins, two draws and three defeats.

They are eight points behind log leaders Tigres.
