NEWLY PROMOTED EZEMVELO LADIES SAY RELEGATION OF NEIGHBOURS HAS OPENED THEIR EYES

Ezemvelo Women’s Football Club Team Manager, Sinothile Shobede, says they have learnt some lessons from the relegation of Lindelani Ladies from the Hollywoodbets Super League after just one season in topflight football. Ezemvelo is gearing up for their first appearance in the elite women’s football league after gaining promotion from the Sasol League at the end of last season. Shobede says they have compiled notes on what not to do once the league starts in March.

She says it hasn’t sunk in yet that they will be playing in the South African elite women’s football league this season. To win the national title, Ezemvelo defeated the University of Cape Town (UCT) 2-0 in the final of the Sasol League National playoffs in Knysna in October last year.

The Hollywoodbets Super League newcomers say their ultimate goal is to win the title, but they are well aware that it will not be an easy task, and it will also take time. For now, they will focus on finishing in the top half of the table, among other things.

With the relegation of Lindelani Ladies, Ezemvelo WFC become the third team from KwaZulu Natal to campaign in the 2024 Hollywoodbets Super League season, after the more experienced Durban Ladies and Royal AM. Shobede says they will run their own race.

Shobede adds that they are yet to start preparations for the new season as they are still awaiting payment from SAFA for winning the Sasol League National Champs.

The KwaZulu Natal side says after campaigning in the Sasol League and winning the national title, they are under no illusion that the Hollywoodbets Super League will be a tough assignment, which will require them to beef up the squad.
