Two derbies will light up Week 12 of the 2023 Hollywoodbets Super League this weekend where six matches will take place on Saturday (6 May) and a further two the next day (Sunday, 7 May).
Copperbelt Ladies vs Ma-Indies Ladies: 15h00
In their first ever meeting, newcomers Copperbelt Ladies will host Ma-Indies Ladies in a Limpopo Derby at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane.
Copperbelt Ladies are in their first season in the big leagues, but are already making waves. They are on position 10 on the table, while their more experienced opponents are languishing at the bottom of the table.
Both lost their previous fixtures, and will be hoping to make amends.
UJ Ladies vs TUT: 15h00
At the same time at the UJ Stadium in Soweto, a Varsity Derby will be on the go when the University of Johannesburg (UJ Ladies) welcome fellow students, the Tshwane University of Technology (TUT).
The visitors are going through a rough patch having not won a match in six outings and find themselves in an unfamiliar 11th position on the table – last season they were second for the better part of the campaign, until they were pipped by UWC on the last day. UJ Ladies on the other hand are also not having the best of times, with no victory in three games.
This will be the seventh meeting between the two teams, and UJ Ladies is yet to register a win against TUT since the 2019 season. The Tshwane outfit has won five of the matches, with one drawn game.
UWC vs Royal AM: 15h00
Table-topping University of the Western Cape (UWC) are at home and will entertain Royal AM at Parrow Park in Cape Town.
With 30 points at the summit of the log, UWC cannot afford to slip up as they have defending champions of the Hollywoodbets Super League, Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies, breathing down their necks two points behind.
Royal AM has worked their way into the top five and will want to cement that position or even better it at the expense of the students.
Both sides won their respective clashes last weekend.
Tuks Ladies vs Thunderbirds Ladies: 15h00
Thirteenth-placed Thunderbirds Ladies travel from the Eastern Cape to Tshwane to face newcomers University of Pretoria (Tuks Ladies) – their first ever meeting in the league.
After 11 outings, the visitors have managed only two wins with seven losses, leaving them struggling in the bottom half of the table, while Tuks Ladies are ninth.
First Touch Academy vs City Lads Ladies: 11h00
Earlier in the day at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium, Eastern Cape’s City Lads Ladies will be hoping for a change of fortunes after losing six fixtures in a row.
City Lads, whose last win was on 18 March, go toe to toe with First Touch Academy who come to this clash in high spirits after their victory last weekend.
Durban Ladies vs JVW: 13h00
JVW and Durban Ladies will face off at the Princess Magogo Stadium in Umlazi, near Durban.
The hosts are still trying to recover from the 6-1 mauling Sundowns Ladies this past weekend, while the visitors will be eager to continue on their winning path after a convincing 3-1 win over City Lads.
The Puma Stadium in Witbank, Mpumalanga is the place to be on Sunday (7 May) where a double header will take place.
Coal City Wizards vs Sundowns Ladies: 11h30
The visiting Sundowns Ladies tackle second-from-bottom Coal City Wizards who suffered defeats in their last six games.
The Brazilians will want to make it four wins in a row as they are also looking to return to the top of the table.
TS Galaxy Queens vs Richmond United: 15h00
Fireworks are expected in the second match later in the day where two teams who are on top form face each other.
This is when third-placed Richmond United vs newcomers TS Galaxy Queens, who are on the fourth spot.
The latter is on a 10-match unbeaten run, with five wins in a row.
The visitors have also not lost a game in seven outings and this will be the first time they lock horns in the Hollywoodbets Super League.
