Kgatlana’s brace sinks Seoposenwe’s Rayadas in the women’s El Classico in Mexico

Banyana Banyana forward Thembi Kgatlana was on fire on Monday (8 September 2025) as she scored a brace that helped her side UANL Tigres to secure three points against bitter rivals Rayadas in the highly anticipated clash in the Liga MX Femenil.

The victors also claimed bragging rights in the 45th edition of the El Classico, with the three points taking Tigres to the top of the log standings in the Apertura 2025.

Kgatlana got on the scoresheet as early as the fifth minute after she pounced on an error by the Rayadas defence, and she duly punished them.

Nine minutes later they increased their lead through a Jimena López’s header before Jennifer Hermoso made it 3-0 in the 22nd minute.

Kgatlana got her second of the day in the 44th minute for a 4-nil advantage at the break.

This was her third goal of the season.

With a heavy thunderstorm in the area of Neuvo Leon, the start of the second half was delayed for about two hours and the scoreline did not change when they resumed, with Tigres triumphant.

After 10 rounds of fixtures, Kgatlana’s side is on 25 points, level with second placed Club America but the former has a superior goal difference.

Jermaine Seoposenwe’s Rayadas has been struggling since the start of the season and lie seventh in the 18-team league. They have collected 17 points so far this campaign, thanks to five wins, two draws and three defeats.

The South African did not get off the bench against Tigres although she played in all five previous league matches.

Monterey next face Toluca on Saturday (13 September) while Kgatlana’s team take on UNAM Pumas on the same day.
