Fresh from leading the Sasol-sponsored Banyana Banyana to their maiden TotalEnergies Women’s Africa Cup of Nations title, captain Refiloe Jane has joined Italian side Sassuolo.
The midfielder spent the last three seasons in the same country with AC Milan, but did not renew her contract at the end of the season – opening the way for her to start new life in Europe under a different club.

“Important signing for Sassuolo, adding Refiloe Jane, midfielder, captain of the South African national team and winner of the 2022 African Nations Cup to their squad. In the last three seasons he has played in Serie A with the Milan team. Welcome Refiloe,” said the club on a twitter post.
Last season her new side finished in fourth place behind league champions Juventus, with Roma and her former side AC Milan second and third respectively.
Sassuolo Femminile managed 13 wins, four draws and five losses in 22 outings.
They collected 43 points, 16 behind Juventus.
The Soweto-born player was on the books of Canberra United in Australia before her move to Europe.

An experienced campaigner, Jane has been capped 127 times at Banyana Banyana. She was part of the squad that played in the 2012 and 2016 Olympic Games, as well as at the maiden FIFA Women’s World Cup in France in 2019.
Already back in Italy after the WAFCON tournament, Jane will be hoping to be in the starting line-up when the new league season kicks off on August 28.
