HOLLYWOODBETS SUPER LEAGUE: Durban Ladies score big

There were only six matches played this past weekend in the Hollywoodbets Super League, with four other teams not in action – JVW, Tuks Ladies, Coal City Wizards receiving byes while reigning champions Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies is out in Côte d’Ivoire taking part in the 2023 CAF Women’s Champions League against seven other clubs.

Only one match was drawn, while five teams won their home matches.

DURBAN LADIES 4 – 0 CITY LADS LADIES

Durban Ladies were the biggest winners this past weekend when they defeated City Lads Ladies 4-0 at the Sugar Ray Xulu Stadium in Clermont, near Durban.

The result sees the hosts move one notch up to eight place with 41 points after 27 games. The visitors remain on the 13thspot.

Durban Ladies will be involved in midweek action when they make the long trip to Johannesburg to face JVW on Wednesday, 8 November at the UJ Auckland Park grounds in an 18h00 kick-off.

COPPERBELT LADIES 2 – 1 FIRST TOUCH

In Polokwane, newcomers Copperbelt Ladies claimed bragging rights when as they won the last Limpopo Derby of the season, following a 2-1 win over First Touch Academy.

The clash took place at the Rugby Field near the Peter Mokaba Stadium.

It was sweet revenge for Copperbelt as they lost 2-0 in the first round.

TUT 2 – 1 THUNDERBIRDS LADIES

East London’s Thunderbirds Ladies succumbed to their 18th defeat of the season when they lost 2-1 to 10th placed Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) at the TUT Stadium Pretoria.

But the result did not matter much to the Eastern Cape side as they have managed to survive the chop following the relegation Coal City Wizards last weekend.

Thunderbirds Ladies are 14th with 20 points, six more than Coal City.

TUKS LADIES 0 – 0 RICHMOND UNITED

The University of Pretoria (Tuks Ladies) and Richmond United could not be separated when they met at the UJ Stadium in Soweto in the first match of a double header at the venue.

In the reverse fixture, Tuks Ladies, who are new in the Hollywoodbets Super League, won 2-1 but they could not repeat the achievement.

The students are on 46 points, sixth on the table with four games to the end of the season, while the Northern Cape side is one place below, and four points behind but with three matches remaining.

UJ LADIES 3 – 0 ROYAL AM

In the second match at UJ Stadium, the University of Johannesburg (UJ Ladies) were on fire as they defeated the high-riding Royal AM 3-0 – their first win in six games.

The students have moved one spot up to seventh on the table, with the KwaZulu Natal side remaining fifth.

TS GALAXY QUEENS 4 – 1 MA-INDIES

Relegated Ma-Indies Ladies suffered their 24th loss of the season when they fell to TS Galaxy Queens at the Solomon Mahlangu Stadium in Mpumalanga after taking a one-nil lead.

The Limpopo side has only won two matches in the current campaign – vs City Lads Ladies and Thunderbirds Ladies – with only two draws (against Copperbelt Ladies and Richmond United).

Sizwe Sibiya charges, who are in their first year in the league, will want to finish as high as possible – they are now third with 54 points, just one ahead of JVW who had a bye this past weekend.

Ma-Indies will round off their season with clashes the University of Pretoria and the Tshwane University of Technology.
