Ayesha Moosa settling in nicely in Spain

Former University of Johannesburg midfielder, Ayesha Moosa, is settling in nicely at her new club CD Argual Femenina based in La Palma, Spain.

She spoke exclusively to CentreCircle.online from her European base while enjoying the festive season break.

The former Soweto Fabulous player left South Africa in October this year to start a new life abroad after being snapped up by the Segunda Federación Femenina (the third tier of women’s football) side.

She had already missed five matches into the season when she landed in Spain but managed to kick off her European adventure with a 2-0 win over Futbollelas – just a week after she had been training with her new employers.

“We have already played 13 games in total. I arrived late and missed the first five fixtures but have since featured in all eight of the matches – two of them in the starting 11,” said an excited Moosa.

“I am looking ahead to 2026, I’m focused on continuing to grow, staying consistent in my performances and doing my best for the team.”

The South African midfielder maestro adds that being in a new environment, she initially found everything different.

“The level is high and more tactically demanding which has challenged me to grow in a positive way in multiple positions. I think with the help of my coaches, teammates and everyone at C.D Argual I’m settling in well. It’s been a challenging but exciting transition for me both on and off the pitch,” added the former UJ Ladies playmaker.

This is also the first time she had to spend Christmas and the entire festive period away from home but has managed to keep herself busy by exploring her new surroundings.

“Being away from family during the festive season has been challenging especially with the league going on a break and most of the players leaving the island, however it’s been a great way to switch off and fully embrace the experience of living here. La Palma is a very beautiful place, so I try to see as much of the place as possible, even during my spare time,” said Moosa.

One of the challenges of coming from Southern Africa and moving to a country like Spain is the language, but Moosa has it covered.

“In terms of the language I have to dedicate a few minutes every day to learn Spanish. The team has been super helpful making the day-to-day instruction easier for me too and that is one of the joys of travelling – you get to know other cultures, like language,” she said.

The second half of the Segunda Federación Femenina season resumes later next month (11 January 2026) with a home fixture against Huesca. Moosa and company will be hoping for better results after a defeat and two draws in their last three fixtures.

CF Argual Femenina, which is making its debut in the league, currently lie seventh on the table on 21 points after six wins – they are five points behind log leaders Levante Badalona B.
