It was a bitter-sweet weekend for Banyana Banyana’s Refiloe Jane in Italy.
Her AC Milan Women side claimed the bragging rights in the Milan derby when they brushed aside their bitter rivals Inter 3-0 in a Series A Women fixture.
But it was not enough as they remained in third place on 46 points – missing out on the UEFA Champions League football next season as they will not be able to catch second placed Roma.
The side from Italy’s capital defeated Sassuolo to cement their position – six points ahead of Milan with one round of fixtures remaining.
Milan had keen interest on the Roma-Sassuolo result as a win for the latter would have given Jane’s side hope going into the final day of the season.
Juventus has won the women’s league title.
The good news for South African football lovers is the Jane is back on the field after an injury lay-off and was able to play in the derby.
